A Realm Reborn (Expansion)

FFXIV - A Realm Reborn

Patch 2.0 | Release Date: August 27, 2013

A Realm Reborn was released in 2013. It was a commercial success and is often credited with breathing new life into the game. This expansion pack introduces players to the world of Eorzea in a new light, with updated graphics and a new storyline.

The story arc of A Realm Reborn is centered around the player’s character, who is a “hero of light” that has been reborn into the world after being trapped in crystal stasis for centuries. The player must help to restore order to the world, which is on the brink of destruction.

Though it has received mixed reviews, A Realm Reborn is generally considered to be a solid foundation on which the subsequent expansions would build. “Reborn” was an appropriate title for the expansion, as it truly did kickstart and reboot the game.

However, some fans were disappointed with the changes made to the game, particularly with the removal of some older content. Nevertheless, A Realm Reborn is an essential piece of the FF14 puzzle and sets up the story for the rest of the expansions.

A Realm Awoken (Patch 2.1)

FFXIV - A Realm Awoken

A Realm Awoken is the first major patch for FF14: A Realm Reborn. It introduces a new level cap of 50, as well as new areas, quests, and gear. The most significant addition to this patch is the Crystal Tower raid.

The Crystal Tower is a 24-player raid that takes place in this update. It is one of the most challenging raids in the game, and players can earn some of the best gear by completing it.

This patch is considered to be a strong start for the A Realm Reborn expansion. It introduces new content that is challenging and rewarding, without feeling like it’s too much at once.

Through the Maelstrom (Patch 2.2)

FF14 - Through the Maelstrom

Patch 2.2 is titled “Through the Maelstrom.” The update introduces new content, such as the Second Coil of Bahamut, a new dungeon that must be completed in order to progress the story.

In addition, Glamour is introduced in this patch. These allow players to change the appearance of their gear, without changing the actual stats or bonuses. This is a popular feature, as it allows players to customize their characters to look however they want.

For Housing, Gardening is added as a feature in this patch. This allows players to plant and grow crops in their private plots.

This patch is considered to be a strong addition to the game. However, some players felt that the new dungeon was too difficult, and required too much coordination from a group.

Defenders of Eorzea (Patch 2.3)

FFXIV Defenders of Eorzea (Patch 2.3)

“Defenders of Eorzea” is the third major patch for A Realm Reborn. In this update, players can expect to see a new high-level dungeon, as well as new gear and equipment.

One of the most significant changes in this patch is the trials. These are high-level boss battles. In order to progress the story, players must complete these trials.

A sixth ward is also added to each of the three main city-states. This gives players more space to purchase or rent a private estate. The Crystal Tower is also expanded in this patch, with new floors and bosses being added.

For some, this patch is considered to be the best one yet. The new dungeon is challenging and fun, and the trials provide a good change of pace from the usual questing and grinding.

Others, however, found the new dungeon to be too difficult and the trials to be uninspired.

Dreams of Ice (Patch 2.4)

Dreams of Ice (Patch 2.4) for FFXIV

This patch is notable for the addition of a new class, Rogue, and a new job, Ninja.
